I just came back from my hometown – Tanjung Balai Karimun, Indonesia.
This trip is a tiring trip but I noticed some unique things :
1. Change with sweets
The smallest unit of currency now is Rp. 100. I seldom see any 50 or 25 anymore. What you can do with Rp. 100? Buy a sweet. Because it’s too small for people, we just don’t bother the existance of it. The unique thing is when you go to buy something; let’s say it costs you Rp 9800 and you pay Rp 10.000, you don’t get Rp 200 change but 2 sweets(If they don’t have coins)
2. Let’s fight
During new year time, the children will arm themselves with airsoft guns (the bullet is made from plastic) and fight with other group of children who pass by their ‘territory’. It’s kind of dangerous and it may hit their eyes. And it’s also annoying as you may be hit when you pass by that particular area.

>> Change with sweets
Ahem Ahem.. It is not unique. It has been there in Myanmar for a long time which is annoying. They will give you sweets for small change but they won’t accept sweets from you.
