The important of water

September 30, 2007

The below article is translated from martinsiet.wordpress.com

Why drinking water is so important to body?

Well, the answer is pretty shocking, but an honest question needs to be answered honestly. The answer is as below

80% of body consists of water(my comment : should be general knowledge, but read on). Some organs even consist of more than 80% of water. Two vital body components which consist of more than 80% of water are :

Blood and brain!!(My comment : well, all components are vital, but the difference is whether is repairable / replaceable)

Brain consists of 90 percent of water.

Blood (not suprisingly) consists of 95 percent of water.

The optimum amount of water intake should be 2 liters or generally known as “8 glasses of water”. Smoker needs to drink more.(My comment : Smokes are coming out from your body, extra water must be used to put off the fire). This amount of water is needed to be used to replace body water loss on urine, sweat(or should be perspiring), breathing(my comment: yes, you breathe out water), and secretion.

What happen if you consume less than 2 liters of water?(My comment : The answer is pretty obvious, you go toilet less often!!! Just a joke).

The body will try to take supply of water from somewhere else and give it to others. By taking water from brain?

Not so, (Imagine taking water from brain, you will have “dry brain”), but the closest (my comment : and more abundant) : blood.

Water is taken from blood, and blood will become “condensed” (My comment : contains less water in a g/m3). The effect will be less able to circulate smoothly when compared with less concentrated blood.

When the highly concentrated blood passes by kidney(organ which filters out poison from blood. Kidney needs to work extra hard to filter the blood. (My comment : Why? Answer should be obvious : Try to filter gold from mud water and sea water). Due the working mechanism of kidney which consists of tiny hole to filter the blood, highly concentrated blood will tear the glomerulus(My comment : See the explanation here) apart in kidney.

The effect : There will be visible red stain in your blood which is a sign of damage glomerulus. If this situation worsens, well, that translates to : you need to visit NKF once a week.

Eh.. Did we talk about brain just now?

Nah,  when the condensed blood flows through brain, the circulation will be slowed. And brain cells consume food and oxygen more than any part of body. Due to the slow circulation, brain cells will die of hunger or will not function properly(Well, that’s pretty reasonable, isn’t it?)

And if you have heart disease, (which works even harder if you have condensed blood), then heart attack will likely to occur.

Now choose yourself, drink water or pay the price when you have diseases.

Morning Rush

September 29, 2007

It’s morning, finished my breakfast. Had an urge to turn on computer and browse Internet. Don’t get me wrong. My first site will be

www.slashdot.org, second will be macrumors.com, etc…

Am I Internet-addicted? I guess yes.

Secret Keeper

September 27, 2007

Imagine you’re a doctor, you have a good friend. You diagnosed him, and found out he had cancer. Chances that he would live beyond 2 months was slim. How are you going to tell your friend? Can you bear to do this?

Now, you imagine you’re a friend of that doctor(You are not doctor anymore). The doctor told you this secret. The patient was also good friend of you. How are you going to tell him?

Above is a scenario that similar to my case. I can’t tell the story as I am the secret keeper now.

Singapore After 2100 – Sea Water Rise

September 24, 2007

“According to the IPCC Third Assessment Report, atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) levels have increased 31% since 1750, at a rate unprecedented in the last 20,000 years. Global temperatures have increased by 0.4 to 0.8°C in the 20 th century, likely to be the largest increase in a century in the last 1000 years, and global sea levels have risen by 10 to 20cm. “

MLM (again)

September 20, 2007

Yesterday, I was asked by a friend to discuss something. He said it was VoIP business. In the end, I found out. He was going to ask me opinion about an MLM(Pyramid scheme, I’d say).

How it works :

There is a mother company that’s providing VoIP service. You first must join member with them. The requirement is what? Pay s$3,000 and you get a handphone, wireless adapter, and business centre (nothing but a name only).

Now, it’s your turn to recruit member under your “business centre”, and they, too, will pay S$3,000 and sad to say you get only %10 or less and the mother company keep the rest. However, if your member recruits other member and you still get money from your member’s member. The list goes on and on…

And this is a pyramid scheme with VoIP technology as candy wrapper. Why? When the market saturated with all the “business centre”, your member’s member’s member’s (continue 10 ten times) cannot get any member. Voilla, they can’t recover their S$3,000. And the mother company can now happily pack their back and leave, perhaps change to other name or announce bankruptcy.
If you think you’re a pioneer and you will gain, then congratulation you’re helping the mother company to cheat money.

Selfish

September 16, 2007

I used to think everyone was selfish. No matter how noble they were, they would be somehow selfish.

It was me who defined selfish too large until it could fit everybody in. A simple example would tell how pessimistic (toward the world) I was : If someone saw an old man crossing road, the person helped the old man. I defined as selfish act as the man was trying to fulfill his own empathy.

Perhaps the correct thinking should be : I wonder why he could have the kind of sympathy towards an old man. The basic feeling towards another human being.

MLM

September 15, 2007

Someone is trying to convince me to get into MLM. Wow, he applied well what he learnt in MLM talk I suppose.

I got so eager to know what it’s about. He said it’s completely new thing. It will be suitable for those who don’t like to sell.

Are you trying to say you don’t need to bite when you’re eating?

But I do get interested to find out what trick is under his sleeve.

1B22 Gathering

September 15, 2007

Yesterday, a list of people turned up.

Some of us haven’t seen each other for a few months. The feeling of getting together really feel a bit awkward. (Or only me myself feels this?). Everybody seems to talk to the their closer one. Everyone has a closer group. During the initial meeting, there was thin ice between us.

But after the end of meeting, everyone seemed to loosen up. We felt more relaxed. This gathering is kind of refreshing the relationship between us.

This is what I felt yesterday. Hope we can have more gathering. I think less and less people will turn up. It’s part of life, isn’t it?

Right or Wrong

September 14, 2007

The conversation below is quoted from somewhere else

A : Suppose you are looking after a baby. The baby is playing with metal object. He’s biting it and want to swallow it. What would you do?
B : I’d take away the metal object.

A : Why?

B : He’d die or otherwise injured if he swallowed it.

Many people are arguing there is no right or wrong. But it’s wrong to let the child swallow the metal object. In the eye of wiser, ignorant is simply child who is trying to swallow the metal object.

Bottle makes dirty water drinkable

September 14, 2007

The way fresh water is supplied to disaster-hit regions could be revolutionised after an Ipswich-based businessman invented a £190 bottle that makes foul-smelling water drinkable in seconds.

Michael Pritchard hopes that the bottle could be a life-saver for refugees in disaster regions where access to clean drinking water is vital.

However, the military are already latching on to his idea. Four hours after Mr Pritchard launched his new “Life Saver” bottle at the DESI defence show in London yesterday, he sold out his entire 1,000 stock. “I am bowled over,” he said. Read more
